Mangalore: Rs 400 Cr Netravati Diversion Project Being Readied, Not Harmful to Coast – Moily

Mangalore, Mar 14: “The Netravati Diversion Project proposed to be executed with an outlay of Rs 400 crore will not harm the coastal districts in any way. This is in fact, not a project aimed at diverting water from River Netravati. The excess water that flows through the Western Ghats is planned to be diverted to benefit people from water-starved districts," said union minister for law M Veerappa Moily.
He was speaking to reporters during his visit to the city on Sunday March 13 to participate in the diamond jubilee celebrations of Mangalore airport. " The project is still in preliminary stage. Technical survey is yet to be conducted. Before deciding about the implementation of the project, all aspects of the issue including problems that might be faced by the people living on state’s coast, will be taken into account,” he assured.
He criticized Jaganmohan Reddy of behaving childishly, as if he was the heir apparent to the post of the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh upon the death of his father and former Chief Minister, Rajashekhar Reddy. “He has built a regional party by using the name of his father. Regional parties do not have any future. He is behaving in a way that can tarnish the image of his father and the Congress party,” Moily added.
He said the state government had not extended an official invitation to him for Vishwa Kannada Sammelan held in Belgaum. “Even though I am a politician, I have done considerable work for Kannada. At least for courtesy sake, they should have invited me. When I was invited to the World Investors’ Meet, I participated in it. I am repentant over that now, as the scams and corruption scandals involving the BJP leaders came in the open thereafter. To cover up their misdeeds, the state government has organized Vishwa Kannada Sammelan”, he felt.
