Bahrain Protest Continues, Four Killed in Clashes

Manama, Mar 16 (IANS): At least four people, including two policemen, were killed in clashes as riot police in Bahrain tried to disperse pro-democracy protesters gathered at a roundabout in this capital city on Wednesday, Xinhua reported quoting Al-Arabia TV.

Police arrived early morning on Wednesday with tanks and tried to expel demonstrators, mainly Shia Muslims, who have camped out in Manama's Pearl Square for a month to press for political reforms.

State-run BNA news agency said that all rioters have withdrawn from the square without any direct clashes with the police force.

Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa on Tuesday declared the state of emergency for three months to deal with the unrest which swept the country soon after a wave of protests toppled long-term regimes in Tunisia and Egypt, triggering similar uprisings in several countries of north Africa and Middle East.

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) troops, most of them from Saudi Arabia, arrived in Bahrain on Monday to help authorities maintain order and protect strategic facilities, including oil resources.

Bahrain, home to the US Navy's 5th Fleet, is ruled by the Sunni Muslim royal family, while the majority Shia population say they face discrimination in jobs and other services.

King Hamad has been in power since 2002 when the country was turned into a constitutional monarchy, paving the way for an elected parliament. But the king has been the supreme authority of Bahrain since 1971.

I have lived in Kuwait for 8 yrs upto 2002, had the pleasure to travel to Bahrain offically around 20 times during this period, Bahrain was by far one of the most liberal countries in the GCC with religious freedom, tolerance and placing itself as a financial hub in the Middle East, but unfortunately today sectarian violence has caused unrest and chaos to the once beautiful land, As quarter of a million Indians reside in Bahrain for their livelihood, lets all pray that God may grant peace and harmony to the protestors and keep the children and infants in his care. Lets all spare a moment during our personal prayers especially for the people of Bahrain and equally importantly for japan and its people.

WHO SAID THERE IS NOTHING HERE IN INDIA. If there is a will there is a way. India has developed faster than many of third world countries. The income level of every one has increased tremendously and we all get ( professionally qualified) more than what people get in gulf countires. you can expect a dignified working conditions depending on your type of work. So you need not worry.

Lord save this country Bahrain from every danger, bless this country with peace, unity and prosperity. Bless the wise and good rulers and the friendly people of the Kingdom Bahrain. This is not the time to go back to our country India or wherever (whenever there is a problem to run back our country), this is the time we join hand in hand with Bahraini's and work hard for peace and unity.
