Kundapur, Sep 21: “Kabaddi is a disciplined sport of the rural area. Merely participating in it is of greater achievement than winning. Take defeat as a challenge,” said former Byndoor MLA K Gopala Poojary.

He was speaking after presiding over a district level Kabaddi tournament of pre university college boys and girls held at Janata Pre-university College on September 21.

Pre-university Education Department deputy director Maruti who inaugurated the tournament said that all the students who were selected for the tournament had won. “As everybody cannot win, those who are defeated also should celebrate,” he said.

Chief guest, Kollur Mookambika Temple management committee president Chandrashekar Shetty said that hard work will definitely bring success. “Life teaches us lessons. Village sports such as Kabaddi, Kho Kho and volleyball need encouragement so that talents like Mamata Poojary, Ashwal Rai and Gururaj can shine at the global level,” he said.

Hemmadi Janata High School headmaster Manju Kalavara and Physical Education Teachers' Association president Jeevan Kumar Shetty spoke.

Kundapur taluk sports convener Rama Shetty, management board vice president Dr Manjunath Ganiga, secretary Sunil Chittal, treasurer Karthikeya M S, management officer, physical education teacher Pradeep Kumar Shetty, district sports convener Dinesh Kumar, Gangolli Saraswati educational institute P U college’s Vasanth Kumar Shetty, Kota Vivek P U college’s Nagaraja Shetty and others were present.

Students from Byndoor, Kundapur, Brahmavar, Udupi, Kaup, Karkal and Hebri took part. President of the management committee, principal Ganesh Mogaveera welcomed. Lecturer Udaya Naik compered the programme. Priyanka proposed a vote of thanks.
