Unprecedented Increase in Passenger Traffic at Kochi Airport


Kochi, May 26 (PTI) The Kochi International Airport here witnessed unprecedented growth in passenger traffic and aircraft movements to both domestic and international destinations in 2010-11.

Registering an average increase of 10.11 per cent in passenger traffic, 43,45,179 passengers traveled through this airport in the last financial year, Airport Director A C K Nair said.

In comparison, the airport saw the arrival and departure of 39,46,103 passengers in 2009-10.

A total of 23,59,937 international passenger movements were recorded during the fiscal, translating into in a growth of 5.72 per cent compared to the previous year.

Kuala Lumpur and Colombo were highly sought after sectors for international tourists, he said.

In the domestic sector, aircraft movements at the Kochi airport stood at 22,600 and passenger movement was 19,85,242, a growth of 15.84 per cent in passenger movement in the domestic sector.

The international sector registered a growth of 2.
