Beltangady, Jun 7: Local police arrested a young man in connection with the 'kidnapping' of a girl he was in love with, in Bangalore on Monday June 6. He was brought to town and produced in court here.

The eighteen-year-old girl of Kadatadka village in Uttara Kannada district near here, was allegedly 'kidnapped' by 24-year-old Sangamesh, a native of Bidar.

Background:

The girl and her brother were travelling in a bus from Uttara Kannada on May 21 to Ujire, where she was studying in a pre-university college. According to the complaint lodged by the girl's father, a youth befriended them during the journey. When the girl was about to alight from the bus at Ujire, the youth stopped her and instead asked her brother to get down. The youth then took girl to Dharmasthala on May 23.

On the basis of the complaint lodged with the town police by the girl’s father, the police led by ASI Chandrashekarayya, and head constable Sanjeev Rai, after scanning the mobile numbers of both, left for Bangalore and sought the help of the Bangalore police in locating them. One policeman, in the disguise of a courier man, managed to nab both in a house in that area.

However, there is more to the case than kidnapping. The girl and Sangamesh met each other two years ago when she had been to Dharmasthala on an excursion. They exchanged mobile numbers and used to meet frequently. In about six months, they were in love. Later, they planned to elope and get married.

The police registered a juvenile case against the girl as she was a few days short of her 18th birthday at the time of lodging the complaint. She was handed over to the care of her parents. Sangamesh was presented before the court which awarded him police custody till Thursday June 8.

Very funny. The boy told the girl's brother to alight at Ujire and he does so and the girl is taken away in his presence! I wonder, if he is the real brother!
