Udupi: Youth Drowns in Swarna River

Udupi, Jun 9: Roshan (20), a resident of Doddanagude here, drowned in Swarna River on Wednesday June 8 afternoon. He had ventured into the river for swimming at Herga near Parkala on Wednesday afternoon, but his body could not be retrieved till Wednesday night.

Roshan was originally from Kaup. He was a matriculate, and used to work as a helper to vehicle drivers. Reportedly, five of his friends were with him when the incident occurred.

After John, uncle of the youth, complained to Manipal police, they summoned the youngsters who were with Roshan at the time of the incident. During questioning, the youth said that Roshan, who was washing his clothes, suddenly jumped into the water and started swimming. Within a short time, he vanished,” they told the policemen.

The policemen and a team of divers are continuing with the search operation.
