Mangalore, Jun 10: Ramachandra alias Suresh (40), a resident of Kotapu Mepurata House in Amboori village in Neyyattinkara, Thiruvananthapuram, who has been accused of committing serial thefts, has been sentenced to three years of jail term by the court of the first additional chief judicial magistrate court here.

Ramachandra, who lives with his wife, Kalakumari, near Kharvikeri Ram Mandir in Kundapur, has his safe deposit locker and savings bank account with the centenary branch of Canara Bank on M G Road here. He used to barge into houses during nights, and deposit cash so stolen in his savings bank account, and jewellery, in his safe deposit locker.

Ramachandra, who was arrested by the policemen while investigating a theft case that was committed within Bunder police station limits during 2008, continues to be an under-trial prisoner. His wife, who was also arrested, was released later.  During this investigation, the policemen found out that Ramachandra was also involved with seven other theft cases in Bunder police station, registered in 2007.

The accused has now been sentenced for six offences at the rate of six months each, in addition to a levy of Rs 1,000 as fine. Six more cases of theft against him are pending hearing.
