Mangalore: Fishing Ban Comes Into Force

Mangalore, Jun 13: A ban has been imposed on all kinds of fishing activity in Karnataka coast from June 15 to August 10 (both days inclusive).

During this period, fishing by way of nets and other equipments, by using mechanized boats including traditional ones that are fitted with inboards or outboards having over 10 horse power, has been banned.

In a release, deputy director of fisheries has warned of legal action against those who violate this ban order. He also reminded that the concerned will be solely responsible for any untoward incidents which might occur during the period, and that the government will not be liable to pay any compensation in such cases. He added that the fishing boats which violate this order will cease to get tax-free diesel, subsidies or any other government facilities.
