Mangalore: Coast Witnesses Normal Rains

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jun 14: Rainfall in the coastal belt of Karnataka remained normal in most of the places on Monday June 13, although Udupi, which received ten cms of rain, and Subrahmanya, reported heavy rains. Even though the rains continued to soak the coast even on the night of June 13, its impact on normal lives of the people has not been too adverse so far.

The continuing rains have brought smiles on the faces of paddy farmers, who will be planting the seedlings in their fields later this month. The meteorological department has predicted continued rains in most parts of the coast, and a few places in southern and northern hinterlands. It has warned of the possibility of heavy rains lashing the coast during the next two days.

Rural roads and a number of other asphalted stretches of roads in the city and elsewhere have developed pot holes as a result of rains. After a bamboo grove fell across the main road between Nadugal and Hariharapallattadka at Mallara near Subrahmanya, traffic was blocked for about six hours. In several other places too, vehicular movement was disrupted on account of uprooted trees, bamboo groves, and electric poles.
