Daijiworld Media Network – Kundapur (SP)

Kundapur, Jun 14: Unknown thieves entered a jewellery shop and two houses in Hosangady town in the taluk on the night of Sunday June 12, and decamped with cash and gold ornaments.

The thieves failed to get any valuables at the jewellery shop named Manjunath Jewellers, as its owner, Santosh Shet, had taken away the gold and silver items home. A safe locker at the shop proved to be too strong for the thieves to open. They then entered two rented houses in which the families of Govind Shetty and Hasina live. Both these houses are located by the side of the said jewellery shop.

After some pedestrians noticed that the shutter of the jewellery shop had been broken on Monday morning, the owner was alerted.

Govind Shetty had locked his house and gone to Kokkarne on Sunday evening. In a complaint, he said that two pairs of golden ear lobes and Rs 4,500 in cash have been stolen. Hasina had locked her house and stayed at the house of the owner on Sunday night. The thieves opened the key of almirah found by its side, and took away Rs 2,800 placed inside.

Assistant superintendent of police, Ram Nivas Sepath, circle inspector, Madan Gaonkar, and Amasebail sub-inspector of police, Shantappa, visited the spot and took up investigation. Sniffer dogs also were pressed into service.
