Daijiworld Media Network – Chikmagalur (SP)

Chikmagalur, Jun 15: It is learnt that the naxals, who had lied low since some time, surfaced at Kere and Markal gram panchayat limits within Sringeri taluk a few days back.

The naxals had split themselves up in two groups, and visited homes of rich agriculturists located in Hadikesugodu within Kere gram panchayat and Kigga in Markal gram panchayat on the same day, three to four days back. They reportedly collected money and other things from farmers.

It may be recalled that the last time naxal activity was seen in the taluk was in May last year, when the gram panchayat election was on. The naxals had pasted banners and wall posters at the water tank, bus stand and school in Buduibail villages in the taluk then.
