Mangalore, Jun 16: Almost all places in Kasargod, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts received heavy rains on Wednesday June 15. Sea erosion intensified at Udyavara Padukare in Udupi district. Boulders of the protective wall built for national highway at picturesque Maravante beach in Kundapur taluk have been slipping into the depths of water, and water from waves have begun reaching the highway.

A number of houses either collapsed because of rain, or damaged due to fallen trees. Agumbe recorded the highest rainfall of 16 cms. The coast on an average, received seven to eight cms of rain.

In Kasargod district, P V Tambayi (60), wife of Narayanan from Narkilakkad Ambitti, slipped into a tank and drowned while taking bath. Severed power and telephone connections have become a common phenomenon. Fallen trees also blocked roads at some places. After a hillock at Ottinene near the border of Udupi district with Uttara Kannada suffered landslide, huge boulders and debris got deposited at the foot of the hill. If the landslide continues, it may endanger the people and highway users.

The meteorological department has predicted heavy rains and speeding gale during the next two days, and warned the fishermen not to venture into the sea.
