Sullia, Jun 18: In a complaint filed with the police station and Bar Council, a resident of Manjalagiri in Panja Kootkunja in the taluk named I B Timmappaiah, has accused a notary of defrauding him as well as the government by using fake stamp paper, fake seal, and forged signature of the official at the office of the sub-registrar here.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday June 17, he expressed the apprehension that since the last four years, the government and the clients would have been cheated to the extent of several lacs of rupees by using fake stamp papers. He accused advocate and notary from Panja, B V Keshava Bhat, of providing him with fake documents. He said that the policemen have done nothing in the case other than summoning the advocate to the station and letting him off. He added that he had sought justice from bar Council too.

Timmappaiah said that he had approached Keshava Bhat along with Mahesh Kumar, for preparing agreement and power of attorney relating to  the proposed purchase of a Maruti car from Mahesh Kumar. Bhat reportedly told him that he would get the required stamp papers from Sullia, collected Rs 1,500 from him, and prepared the documents the next day. “Later, Mahesh approached his bank for clearance of the loan and transferring of loan in my name. The bank officials expressed the doubt that the documents were invalid. After getting them verified at the sub-registrar’s office, I found that the stamp paper, signature and seal of that office had been forged. I thereafter, complained to Subrahmanya police station,” he explained.

The office of the sub-registrar here has confirmed that the stamp paper in question was not issued by them, and that the document sheets are now being issued through other outlets. Police circle inspector, Lakshman Kumar, clarified that the police did not take the accused into custody as they are yet to gather supporting evidence.
