Mangalore: Airport Diamond Jubilee – Five-day Cultural Festival Planned

Mangalore, Jun 21: As the third in a series of programmes being held as part of the diamond jubilee celebrations of the local airport, a five-day cultural festival will be organized at Town Hall here between July 18 and 22. This programme will be meant for the students of schools and colleges located in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kasargod districts, apart from the general public.

Classical and folk dance competitions for students studying in first to tenth standards will be held on July 18 and 19. This competition will be split into three categories, i.e. first to fifth standard, sixth and seventh standards, and eighth to tenth standards. Competitions in patriotic and lyrics, painting, elocution and skits will also be held on these days.

Competitions will be held for PU and first grade college students on July 20 and 21 respectively. On the final day, July 22, competition of singing lyrics will be held for the general public.

Every day, Tulu drama competition will be held from 6 to 8 pm. The plays should be based on mythological, historical or folklore stories. The plays will be given first prize (Rs 20,000), second (Rs 15,000), and third prize (Rs 10,000), along with citation and shields. The valedictory will be held on July 22.

This information was given by M K Seetaram Kulal, president of the Cultural Festival Committee, addressing a press conference here on Monday June 20. Chief coordinator, K Tejomaya, members, Shobhodaya Alva and Prabhakar Shriyan, were present.

Those interested to participate in the competitions should send their entries to M K Seetaram Kulal, president, Cultural Festival Committee, ‘Benakashree’, near Baliga Store, Bejai, Mangalore, or K Tejomaya, chief coordinator, ‘Dwaraka’, Arya Samaj Road, Mangalore. Last date for receipt of application for drama competition is July 5, and entry forms for cultural competitions, July 10.
