Chikmagalur, Jun 22: For frivolous reasons, a lady from Hampapura village within the jurisdiction o the rural police station here, fed poison to her child and then tried to end her life. The incident occurred on Tuesday June 21.
Savita (20), wife of Annaiah from Hampapura, had been urging her husband to break away from their joint family, and set up separate home. Angered by the fact that her husband was not agreeable for the proposal, Savita gave food laced with poison to her one-year-old child, Punit, and then consumed poison herself.
While Punit died immediately, Savita was admitted into a private hospital in precarious condition. She is battling for her life there. The local police have registered a case.
