Bangalore, Jun 22: Here's some good news for Kannadiga netizens. Google has announced the inclusion of Kannada to its online translation programme, a much-awaited move given the scope and extent of its need among the tech-savvy in the IT city.

The inclusion comes as part of Google's efforts to expand its reach over the Indian sub-continent. Apart from Kannada, it will also introduce Bengali, Tamil, Gujarati and Telugu languages on an experimental basis, covering almost half a million population.

With this, the total number of languages supported by Google Translate has gone up to 63, including 11 newly-launched alpha languages.

Google Translate partly depends on the amount of web content a particular language enjoys on the net, and thus, the translations of the new languages may not be as fluent as some of the other international ones.

To counter the problem of script which is different for each of the new languages, Google has enabled an input method wherein the text is transliterated.

However, these translations will be open to corrections and users can send in their corrections to Google.
