Gulbarga, Jun 28: The general session of the zilla panchayat (ZP) here, convened on Monday June 27, had to be postponed for a silly reason. A number of female zilla panchayat members stuck to their demand to allow their husbands to participate in the meetings. They also insisted that the officials should hold discussions with their husbands instead of themselves, and obey the instructions of their spouses.

A few minutes before the session was to begin, the husbands led away their wives, who had become zilla panchayat members in the recent election. “You just concur with what the officials say, without understanding what they are doing or saying. It is of no use. Let us go from here,” the husbands were heard saying to their wives.

Relating to the problem, ZP president, Shivaprabhu Patil, held a meeting with the ZP members and their husbands in his cabin. Reportedly, the female ZP members said they do not understand what the officials of the ZP tell them. Hence, they put forth the demand that their husbands should be allowed to function in their place, and that the officials should deal with the husbands of ZP members. The discussions continued for about two hours, but the stalemate could not be broken.

Patil at last, told the female ZP members that he would discuss the issue of finding a way out of the imbroglio, with the officials. The other members, who were angered by the absence of the president and vice-president of the ZP for a prolonged period, were seen arguing with the officials present.
