Udupi, Jun 28: The eighth taluk Kannada Sahitya Sammelan will be held at the late Bhojaraja Shetty stage in Laxmi Janardhan temple auditorium here on Sunday July 3, said taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Dr Gananath Yekkar.
Addressing the media persons at Vidyaniketan, Kaup, near here on Monday June 27, Dr Gananath said that renowned litterateur, education expert and critic Dr Mahabaleshwar Rao will preside over the programme here.
The state higher education minister Dr V S Acharya will inaugurate the programme.
Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, Udupi MLA K Raghupati Bhat and former state minister Vasant V Salian will be the chief guests.
The reception committee honorary president K P Acharya will inaugurate the procession at Kaup welcome arch here on Sunday at 9.00 am.
MLA Lalaji Mendon will hoist the national flag, while Kannada Sahitya Parishat district president Ambatanaya Mudrady will hoist the parishat flag. The reception committee president Nadikere Ratnakar Shetty will hoist Kannada flag and Vasant V Salian will inaugurate book exhibition.
Seminars
Folklore scholar K L Kundantaya will deliver a special lecture on cultural hierarchy that is being followed in the limits of Kaup. Nilavar Surendra Adiga, Pratapchandra Shetty Halnadu, Peroor Jaru and Dr Niketan will present papers on the topic ‘ Udupi district and future of Kannada on the occasion.
Gamaka musical extravaganza will be held on Sunday afternoon. S Sridhar Hande, H Chandrashekar Kedlaya, B Ramachandra Rao and H Sujayindra Hande will participate in the extravaganza.
Sheela K Shetty will chair the poets’ session on Sunday at 3.00 pm.
Felicitation Programme
Zilla panchayat president Katpady Shankar Poojary will felicitate the achievers in various spheres on Sunday at 4.00 pm. Dr Y N Shetty (medicine and Tulu culture), Gururaj Marpalli (theater), Mumtaz Begam (literature), Baban Saheb (clarinet), Ramesh Kalmady (folklore), B S Rao (theater), Catherine Rodrigues (literature) and Shankar Pambada (Bhotaradane) are the persons to be honoued.
Renowned scholar professor A V Navada will deliver valedictory address here on Sunday evening.
Kannada Sahitya Parishat former president Harikrishna Punaroor, Kundapur unit president Kodi Ramanand Kamat and Karkala unit president professor Padmanabha Gowda will be the chief guests.
Bharatanatyam and Sugama Sangeet programme will be held as part of cultural programme in association with Kannada culture department and Pushparani, children’s play will be staged by Ratabeedhi Geleyaru after the valedictory speech.
