Bangalore, Jun 30: A division bench of the state High Court, headed by Chief Justice, J S Khehar, and Justice H G Ramesh, through an order passed on Wednesday June 29, ordered the government to bring members of Mogera community under the purview of scheduled castes category. The bench warned the government that it will view any further problems the community members may face henceforth to get scheduled caste certificate, seriously.

Mogeras living in Dakshina Kannada and Kollegal in Chamarajanagar district were so far being treated as belonging to scheduled castes, while the Mogeras living in other districts were listed under backward classes. Uttara Kannada District Mogera Samaj has approached the state High Court through public interest litigation, questioning the partisan measure of the state government.

The division bench, after hearing all the parties concerned, ordered the government to fall in line with the rules governing the caste status of Mogeras that existed prior to 1994.
