Mangalore, Jul 1:
“The role of accountants in all exposed corruption cases was a major one,” said Lokayukta Santhosh Hegde. He was addressing the gathering at the ‘CA Foundation Day’ celebration of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, organized at T V Raman Pai Hall on Friday July 1.

“Though I am speaking at a programme of chartered accountants, I cannot hide the truth. The menace of corruption has not even spared professions like medicine, engineering, law, and accountancy,” he lamented.

“According to the CAG report 2007-08, the central government had released Rs 51,000 crore to all states under eight different projects like mid-day meal and drinking water among others. But the accounts vanished later and the people behind this were accountants,” added Hegde.

“Though every profession has its own respect, greed of the human mind is destroying the values in society,” he said.

Deputy speaker N Yogish Bhat, NITK director Sandeep Sacheti, Murali Mohan, and Jagannath Kamath were amongst those present. C Chandramohan welcomed.

Earlier, speaking to media persons on the sidelines of this programme, Hegde said that he would not take up the investigation against former chief minister Kumarswamy on the charge sheet against him as his term as Lokayukta is ending on Sunday July 31. He added that the investigation be handed over to CID, CBI. Hegde also added that he has plans to initiate a ‘Satyagraha’ against corruption.

    Justice Hegde,
It seems your position is worse than the President of India. You are a titular Justice of a titular type of Bureaucratic Department and having no powers vested with you. Only speeches, presiding over the gatherings, school children etc. once in blue moon talking against political leaders and Government otherwise conducting simple raids on poor village accountants.....fee pity about you and your department.
