Bangalore, Jul 2: Even as the farmers staged protests demanding immediate disciplinary action against Kolar Deputy Commissioner Manoj Kumar Meena for pushing out some persons from a venue during of the programme to select beneficiaries of the Suvarna Bhoomi scheme through lottery, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has defended action and said the official had done nothing wrong.

Addressing presspersons here at Krishna, home office of the Chief Minister on Saturday said no action would be taken against the Kolar Deputy Commissioner.

''I have received a report about the incident and there was no necessity of any action against the Deputy Commissioner,” Yeddyurappa said.

Farmers of Mandya, Kolar, Chamarajangar, Mysore and other districts staged protests on Friday demanding suspension of the official for pushing out some person from the venue during the programme conducted for selection of beneficiary of Suvarna Bhoomi scheme thorough lottery system in Kolar on Thursday.

Yeddyurappa said the Deputy Commissioner followed the right procedure for selection of beneficiaries under the scheme and ruled out any action against him.

During the selection of beneficiaries members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and the Students Federation of India (SFI) arrived at the venue and took the officers to task alleging that the selection process was improper and demanded that the officers stop the programme.

Agriculture department Joint Director Chikkanna, Assistant Director Gayatri, Tahsildar Dr Dayanand, Taluk Panchayat President N Ramadevi, Executive Officer K S Bhat and others tried to convince protestors but in vain.

Deputy Commissioner Manoj Kumar Meena, who arrived at the Rangamandira, tried to convince the protesters. But when the protestors continued to press for their demands, the Deputy Commissioner pushed some persons out of the hall.

After the incident, the farmers walked out of the venue and block the road in Kolar.
