Mangalore: District Cong Women's Wing Lists Out State Govt's Failures

Mangalore, Jul 3:
A protest was staged by the women's wing of the district Congress in front of the deputy commissioner's office here on Saturday July 2, against the the BJP-led state government's inaction over various issues.

Shalet Pinto spoke on the issue of civic tiger which has been preventing street vendors from carrying out their businesses in the city, and urged the government to take immediate action in favour of the vendors.

She also alleged that the state government has been neglecting widows, the elderly and the physically challenged people, and entreated the government to introduce steps for their uplift.
 
Anitha Hemanath Shetty, former member of zilla panchayat, said that scarcity of sand as well as its high price has prevented the poor from building houses. Shelterless people should be given licence to construct houses on three-cents land, she said, adding that nearly half the population among the poor has not yet received ration cards.

Congress women's wing district president Mamatha Gatty, corporators Mamatha Shenoy, former corporator Hilda Alva among others present.
