Karkala: Two Sandalwood Smugglers Held

Karkala, Jul 4: The local policemen, who grew suspicious about the movements of two persons while checking the vehicles at Joduraste in Kukkundoor village in the taluk on Saturday July 2, arrested them after finding sandalwood pieces in their possession.

The arrested have been identified as Ganesh Devadiga (28) and Raghavendra Devadiga (31), residents of Hirgana village in the taluk. 22 kgs of sandalwood, a saw and a sickle that were used for cutting down a sandal tree, were recovered from their possession. The value of the sandalwood seized from them has been estimated at Rs 33,000. It is said that the two were searching for prospective buyers when the policemen saw them.

Station house officer of the local station, Pramod Kumar, crime branch sub-inspector, Ravi B S, and other personnel were involved with the operation.
