Media Release

BELLARY, JUL 8: “Skilling rural unemployed youth is skilling India, which will contribute to resurgent India”, declared Bishop of Bellary Henry D’Souza here at Jawalgera today.

“With over seventy per cent of the people living in rural India, of whom about half are youth, the need of the hour is to train the youth in skills for employment, who will build a new future for themselves, ushering in a new India”, stated Bishop D’Souza.

Bishop D’Souza was inaugurating a skills training programme for rural unemployed youth at the Bellary Diocesan CCFT Centre in Raichur district of Northern Karnataka.

The initiative is a joint venture of Don Bosco Tech and CCFT Centre, supported by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.

128 rural youth, both boys and girls are participating in the three month long training programme, which ensures almost cent per cent employment for the candidates.

The candidates coming from the districts of Bellary, Koppal and Raichur are being trained in trades such as electrical, bedside nursing and industrial tailoring.

“The Catholic Church which has invested huge resources of personnel and material in formal education through schools and colleges, needs to reallocate its resources to train the rural youth in employment oriented and life coping skills”, opined Bishop D’Souza.

“While imparting skills, the Catholic institutions need to instill in the youth a sense of dignity, respect for life and faith in the Divine”, opined Bishop.

Coordinator of the DB Tech programme in Karnataka, Fr Joy, sdb urged the participants “to plunge into the well planned programme and prepare themselves to be employed in industries and production units”. “DB Tech is running similar programmes in 128 centres in India”, he informed.

Director of the training centre, Fr. Charles Sunder Raj spoke on the ethos of the institution and urged the candidates to be “devoted to duty and disciplined in their approach”.
