Mangalore, Jul 10: Energy minister Shobha Karandlaje has clarified that Netravati river will not be diverted as reported earlier. The report by Paramashivaiah in this regard is not the final one, she said.
Speaking to press reporters in Dharmastala on Saturday July 9, she said that it was a rumour that Netravati would be diverted. There is no such proposal before the government, she added.
Digging a channel through the Western Ghats to make the water flow eastwards is not easy. Even a small construction work cannot be undertaken in the Ghat, so there is no question of shaping out a channel, she said.
The government has intention of harvesting rain water in the regions of Western Ghats so as to provide drinking water to Kolar, Tumkur among other places. This will not harm Netravathi river, she said.
