BJP in Karnataka to hold meeting over textbook revision row

Bengaluru, Jun 15 (IANS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka has decided to hold a meeting over the Congress-led government's decision to revise textbooks.

The decision was taken during a meeting organised at the party headquarters Jagannath Bhavan in Malleshwaram, in Bengaluru.

BJP National General Secretary C.T. Ravi, former Karnataka speaker Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri, former minister C.N. Ashwath Narayan, former education ministers B.C. Nagesh, S. Suresh Kumar, MLCs Shasheel Namoshi, among others were present in the meeting.

The meeting decided that the matter must be discussed in detail and a strategy to oppose it should be made before the Assembly session which would be held in July.

Speaking to the media, C.T. Ravi said: "It is intolerable that after the Congress government assumed power, without discussion and with only a prejudiced mindset, the exercise of removal of lessons has been taken up.

"We will give a suggestion to the government. The individuals might change, but not the government. The system of education can't be changed by a prejudiced mindset. The preliminary discussions are being held at this stage. Later, a discussion will be held with the experts in the education sector and a decision will be taken," he said.

Former Minister for Education B.C. Nagesh, under whom the textbook revision exercise was taken up, said "the new government has taken up the textbook revision all of a sudden. Whatever the matter is, deep research is required."

Minister for Education Madhu Bangarappa said during the ongoing academic year the unscientific and anti-Constitutional content would be revised.

"The previous BJP government had added objectionable content to the syllabus. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah himself is concerned about revision of those aspects," he said.

The Congress government is all set to drop lessons, poems and writings on RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, Veer Savarkar and lessons by right wing writers, sources said.

These guys seem to be sitting there not for improving education or helping future generation with better quality of skills and knowledge. They seem to sit there to find ways to polarize the society and create religious hate. This is why BJP got kicked out from Karnataka and rest of the country will follow that soon, since citizens are concerned about themselves and future of their kids.

It is very important what we teach to young minds. We must always teach right things to youngsters so that they develop a good national pride and deshbhakthi. Hence every attempt must be made to educate the children with deshbhakthi. We must always make them understand the value of our culture and Gandhian value of life. If all Indians are inculcated with Gandhian values India will surely be ramarajya. I always felt that we are not instilling gandhian value sin young minds. We can together work and make India a better nation. It is very important as what we teach our children. I feel we must always educate the chidldren about our great culture gandhian values and also the great history we have. It should be beyond religion and we must always educate our children in right way. I am sure the government will listen to this and work toward a better India ignoring party politics and religion. In some western nations children are taught history and they always educate about good moral values. I am sure we can achieve this in India too. Lets inculcate good moral values in our children's so that they become good citizens of India. Education is a important thing in life and we can achieve good deshbhakathi in children if we inculcate good moral value sin children's right from childhood. I hope the government will move in the right direction beyond party politics religion and sectarianism
