Bengaluru, Jun 15: Archbishop of Bengaluru, Dr Peter Machado, who also serves as the President of the Karnataka Region Catholic Bishops' Council and All Karnataka United Forum for Christian Human Rights, has expressed his appreciation for the Congress government's decision to repeal the controversial Karnataka Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Act, 2022, commonly known as the anti-conversion bill. This decision is welcomed on behalf of the entire Christian community in the state.

"The repeal of this contentious bill is a commendable step towards upholding fundamental rights," stated the Archbishop, emphasizing that it validates the consistent stance taken by the Church and the Christian community. He further explained, "It reaffirms our belief that this legislation not only violated individuals' freedom of religion but also contradicted the provisions enshrined in Article 25 of the Indian Constitution. Article 25 guarantees the freedom to practice, profess, and propagate any religion, which is a fundamental right essential for a diverse and pluralistic society. Christians will always continue to work within the framework of the Indian Constitution, serving the state and the nation, and reaching out to all, regardless of caste and creed, with a special focus on the poor and marginalized."

The Anti-Conversion Bill in Karnataka, as well as in other states, has resulted in increased attacks on Christians, as it encouraged fringe elements to target and harm them. It fostered doubt, mistrust, and disharmony between communities. The Archbishop expressed his hope that other states will follow suit and withdraw similar bills.

Understanding the complexities involved in the process of repealing a law, the Christian community remains hopeful and confident that necessary support will be extended by all concerned parties at various stages. This collaborative effort is crucial to ensure a smooth transition and the complete withdrawal of the anti-conversion bill.

"I would like to take this opportunity to express gratitude once again to the Government of Karnataka for demonstrating courage and decisiveness in repealing this act. The acknowledgment of concerns raised by the Christian community and the subsequent actions taken to rectify the situation are commendable. This step will contribute to fostering an atmosphere of religious harmony, tolerance, and respect for all faiths in the state," added the Archbishop.

The Archbishop Dr. Peter Machado has indeed lead from the front and protected His Flock .The Christian Community has always been charitable and has only helped the community in Education and Health and has never been involved in anti social activities being just below 2 percent of the population. There is not a single proof of conversion and despite this the Draconian Anti Conversion Bill has been introduced hastily by the precious government . Hope it will be withdrawn in all other States as well

Absolutely true Anyone from Mangalore, name your friend or classmates converted. And why in Australia and elsewhere our religion is fastest growing and they don't have any problem with that? We sometimes act like big hypocrites. When Indian origin person becomes a leader in other countries,we are proud. Imagine this in our country...Our so called false patriots will try to dig his 100 generation blood line.

Arjun and Ashish please note your hate mind won’t improve your mental health. Christians are very progressive communities which will never bow down to Chaddis rather keep helping your community for their benefit in providing education and health care. You may be already studying in Christian schools and visiting Christian hospitals and also eating pork with Christian families but still hate us. Brother be humble and kind to be a good human being. Christians are part of India many thousands of years. You or any chaddis have no right at all to tell Christian how to live and practice religion or teach others our religions whoever is interested in learning . So be humble and time permits read a bible which will heal you from hate and anger and make you a good human being. Promise of Christ is guaranteed for you . Pray.

Sadly, Indian politics is intertwined with religion. While one party supports the majority, the another supports minorities - both are doing wrong. Despite vehement and at times violent protest, under police protection and curfew, using tax payers money still these politicians want to celebrate the birthday of the demon King Tipu Shaitan. This is slap in the face of of all those who lost their forefathers on account of this Jihad that was unleashed upon us.

Day and night difference between two governments! First one imposed unnecessary meaningless communal rules just to please the majority Hindus for vote bank and the other secular government run by congress repeal the same without any hesitation. Not only Christians, any sensible leaders would consider such act is very reasonable and justified in the modern secular world. God bless congress leaders to achie more and more in a positive way. All Christians must offer special prayers to God on this most remarkable day. False hood is short lived and sincere acts are always blessed. Praise Lord 🙏
