Bengaluru, Jun 18: Following the Congress government's recent decision to repeal controversial amendments to the anti-conversion law and withdraw changes made to school textbooks during the BJP regime, chief minister Siddaramaiah took the opportunity on Sunday to meet with Archbishop of Bengaluru, Dr Peter Machado, at the Archbishop's House. He also paid a personal visit to the Arabic College in the city to meet with Muslim leaders.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Ministers K J George and Z A Zameer Ahmed Khan, as well as chief minister's Political Secretary Naseer Ahmed.
"These are just courtesy calls following the formation of the Congress government in the state," stated the chief minister.
The Archbishop warmly greeted and expressed gratitude to the chief minister and the government for promptly repealing the controversial amendments to the anti-conversion law, which were introduced by the previous BJP government.
The Archbishop emphasized that the amendments, implemented by the BJP government, faced strong opposition from all sections of the Christian community.
Muslim community leaders and Moulvis also appreciated the government's commitment to safeguarding the interests of minority communities.
