Bengaluru, Jun 19: Six bereaved families of persons, including four from coastal Dakshina Kannada who lost their lives in communal clashes during the Basavaraj Bommai-led BJP rule in coastal Dakshina Kannada. Mandya and Gadag districts, were distributed compensation cheques for Rs 25 lac each by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru on Monday.
The six persons, who lost their lives in different communal clashes in the district under BJP rule are: Masood (Sullia), Idris Pasha (Mandya), Mohammed Fazil ((Mangaluru), Shameer Sab (Nargund, Gadag), Abdul Jaleel (Mangaluru) and Deepak Rao (Mangaluru).
The Chief Minister presented the cheques to the bereaved family members in his Home Office of Krishna.
“The government belongs to all. We don’t believe in selecting victims from only one community and religion in distributing compensation. Providing compensation to the victims of only one religion, Hinduism, is anti-constitutional,’’ he said accusing the BJP regime of discriminating people in wiping their tears even while distributing compensation without specifically referring to the payment of compensation to the families of victims in Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga etc.
Siddaramaiah said he had strongly criticized the hate politics and discrimination on the basis of religion as Opposition leader even on the floor of the assembly. “We have now set right the injustice and discrimination of BJP regime,’’ he said.
The Chief Minister said the Congress government would deal with communal elements and those indulging in moral policing in any part of the State with an iron hand.
“Our government will never allow any person or persons to take law into their own hands under the guise of religion or castes,’’ he declared and mentioned that the police have been given strict instructions to put down the people indulging in communal hatred or moral policing.
Ministers N Cheluvarayaswamy, Zameer Ahmed Khan and Chief Minister’s Political Secretaries Nazir Ahmed and Govindaraju were present.
