Meritorious journalism students to be felicitated by Udupi District Working Journalists' Association

Udupi, Jul 5: The silver jubilee committee of the Udupi District Working Journalists' Association, in association with Kasturba Medical College (KMC) in Manipal, and the Working Journalists' Association, Bengaluru, will organize a felicitation event for journalism students in Karnataka as part of their silver jubilee celebration. The event will take place at TMA Pai Hall on July 8.

During a press meet held on Wednesday, July 5, Rajesh Shetty Alevoor, president of the Udupi District Working Journalists' Association, announced that a one-day program has been planned. In the first half of the day, the students will have the opportunity to visit the anatomy department, planetarium, and the Udayavani printing press in Manipal. Around 400 journalists and their children are expected to attend the program, which will commence at 1 PM. College students and cultural organizations will showcase cultural dances and other activities representing Karnataka.

The felicitation ceremony will honor journalism students who have scored above 80% and 90% in their SSLC and PUC board exams, respectively. Approximately 100 students from different districts of Karnataka will receive cash prizes and certificates during the event.

The program will be inaugurated by U T Khader, the state speaker, and the awardees will be felicitated by Lakshmi Hebbalkar, minister of women and child development. Shivanand Thagadoor, state president of the Karnataka Working Journalists' Association, will preside over the program.

Notable dignitaries such as Mankala Vaidya, Minister of Fisheries and Ports, Inland Transport, H S Ballal, pro vice-chancellor of MAHE Manipal, MLA Yashpal Suvarna, M Kurma Rao, deputy commissioner, and Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent of KMC Manipal, will be present on the day.

The press meet was attended by Mohammed Shareef Karkala, convener of the Silver Jubilee Committee, Nazeer Pulya, secretary of the Udupi District Working Journalists' Association, Umesh Marpalli, treasurer, Jayakar Suvarna, chief secretary of the Silver Jubilee Committee, and Kiran Manjanbailu, state committee member.
