Mangaluru, Jul 4: Residents of Mitthagele in Munnoor gram panchayat have raised concerns about the drainage work carried out by the Public Works Department (PWD), causing rainwater from Belma area in Ullal to flow towards Munnoor. They fear that approximately 40 houses in the area are in danger if the water enters their premises.

According to the villagers, the drainage work near Yenepoya hospital in Belma was initiated a week ago to address the issue of water stagnation and artificial floods on the state highway in front of the medical college. However, the water that was redirected into the drainage system has now been flowing towards the Mithagela area, damaging private property and posing a threat to the 40 houses located downstream.

In response to the complaint, Munnoor gram panchayat president Wilfred D'Souza and member Mahabala T Deppalimar visited the site and attempted to redirect the water temporarily to a drainage pit. However, their efforts proved unsuccessful.

The villagers have requested the PWD engineer Das Prakash to widen the drainage work in order to mitigate the issue. They remain hopeful that a solution will be provided soon.
