Moodbidri: Danger lurking on foot-bridge at Puddarakodi

Daijiworld Media Network – Moodbidri (MS)

Moodbidri, Jul 10: Public living at Puddarakodi of Todaru village under the limits of Iruvailu gram panchayat are literally playing with danger as they have to cross a wooden foot-bridge during heavy rains.

A foot-bridge that was constructed many years ago near the house of Jaya Shetty collapsed last year during monsoon. A temporary one was built using arecanut tree planks. Every day, more than 100 people walk on this foot-bridge playing with their lives. More than 15 young children going to Anganwadi, primary and Todaru school are also forced to use this bridge.

As the parents are scared to send their wards alone, they also accompany them to school and bring them back also. Though the issue is brought to the notice of gram panchayat there is no improvement in the situation.

Though the PDO says that grant is set aside to build a permanent foot-bridge, the villagers say that the work is still not begun.
