Mishap Averted: Mumbai - Dubai Emirates Flight Makes Emergency Landing

Daijiworld Media Network

Mumbai, Jul 27: A major air mishap was averted thanks to the captain's presence of mind, when Boeing 777, EK 507 Emirates Airlines which took off at 3.30 pm from Mumbai made emergency landing back in Mumbai international airport at 4.10 pm.

It is reported that the fuel tank in one of the engines was found leaking. As a precautionary measure, fire fighters were rushed to the aircraft as soon as it landed in the airport.

All 202 passengers on board were reported safe and were offloaded from the aircraft.

There is no official statement from the airlines so far as to the arrangements made for the passengers to reach their destination. It is uncertain whether they will be allowed to board another flight or the same flight would take off later.

Engineers are now looking into the issue.

I wonder if this news will be published in the local dailies in the UAE? The local dailies are out to make a mountain out of a mole when it comes to scams etc in India.

You really do not know what you are commenting. this plane was not brake fail to roll down the hill in mangalore as you have said that if in mangalore it would have been crashed. only the fuel tank was leak, so not question of not stopping on time. mangalore air crash was a different issue were pilot errors were a lot. table top airport was not the reason though even it is risky due to the geographical condition. but any ways people like you will always blame mangalore airport without knowing the proper knowledge.

The aircraft invloved is an Airbus 330 and not a Boeing 777, as shown on live images from Mumbai. A landing due to fuel leak alarm is a standard operating procedure and does not constitute an "emergency" as an impending crash, as most readers presume. Every pilot is trained to act in the same manner for emergencies like this. Dumping fuel before landing is also a standard operating procedure, to minmise risk of a fire, should there be an "impact" on touchdown. Let us not sensationalise events.

The Pilot's mind on task must have saved lives of hundreds. We hear most of the time incidents that related to fuel leak /fire on engine .Can any one explain what causes this leak or engine fire -Is this because of Human error/carelessness of ground staff or unsafe condition of aircraft system? Even after having high tech.monitoring /sensing device why airlines could't detect before an incident.

Great to hear all passengers are safe. But I don't think God had anything to do with it. If God can save people in airplanes, why didn't he save those on the AI Express flight to Mangalore? Or the Air France Flight over the Atlantic? This is just a case of good training and skill of the captain.. Good result in any case.

Lucky people. It looks like the flights are maintained like busses. Fill fuel and run. Hardly they check anything eventhough they have to check thousand things in the check list. Only poor people have to suffer becuase of them.
