Karkala, Jul 17: Though concrete road is built, the commuters who pass via Nitte Parapadi bridge, are facing inconvenience as the road on both sides of the bridge is still not repaired.

In 2020, a 4.2 km long concrete road was built at a cost of Rs five crore as the road from Parapady to Barady Chilimbi was completely damaged. However, the road on the bridge is not repaired.

In addition to vehicle drivers, pedestrians are also put to inconvenience due to the non-asphaltization of the road that connects Parapadi bridge on both sides. The approaching road to the bridge has downward slope and many two wheeler riders have skidded on this road.

Residents of Chilimbi, Baradi, Pelathakatte use this bridge for daily commuting. This bridge which was built decades ago is completely dilapidated. Iron roads can be seen as the cement plastering is broken in many places on the bridge.

Many stone quarries operate near Sarapady. Heavy vehicles pass through the bridge continuously. There is a change that the bridge might collapse. But people representatives and concerned panchayat officials are not taking any action.

Mithun, PWD engineer said, “The road works was done under Namma Grama Namma Rasthe scheme. The responsibility of maintaining the road is that of the contractor for five years. New bridge needs to be built. The work will begin as soon as the grant is released.”
