Sullia: No doctor at primary health care centre

Sullia, Jul 17: The medical officer who was working at Kollamogru primary health care centre resigned in April 2023. Since then no other person is recruited to that position. In addition, positions of lab technician, clerk and ANM staff under Kollamogru and Madappady village limits are lying vacant.

At present, doctors from private medical college of Sullia visit on Monday and Thursday. On other days the patients are sent to Sullia. Kollamogru is 50 km from city area. When people fall severely ill they have only PHC of Kollamogru. There is no ambulance arrangement also.

Contagious diseases are on the rise as monsoon has begun. Lab technician is required for conduction blood and other tests. In addition, Kollamogru is flood-affected area also. Around 30 patients visit this PHC every day.

Sullia taluk health officer Dr Nandakumar said that recruitment will be done soon for the position of doctors in government hospitals. During that time even Kollamogru PHC will get a permanent doctor.
