Bantwal, Jul 17: The remains of an ancient temple are found in the midst of bushed at Byaretyaru of Maninalkooru village of the taluk. It is said that the temple belongs to Lord Shiva. But the actual history will be known only after thorough study.

The remains are found on the land owned by Sujananda Rai, resident of Byaretyaru. As the remains are surrounded by tall bushes, they are not visible from far. Only when the bushes are pushed to a side, they are visible. Locals say that similar remains were found many years ago and if the question is asked in any holy place it says that there was a temple.

The remains are of a strong foundation of a structure. There is a well nearby which is in good condition even now. Many flat stones are there near the house of Sujananda Rai. It is opined that they must be the windows and doors of the temple.

During the Ashtamangala Prashne ritual that was held at temple and daivastanas of Maninalkooru and Sarapadi villages, it was repeatedly said that there are remains of a Shiva temple that is dilapidated in the vicinity. So many devotees are visiting the place and offering prayers.

Local resident Vishwanath Shetty says that a thorough study by archaeologist will give the history of the temple and Ashtamangala Prashne might offer clear picture of the temple.

Sujananda Rai, owner of the land on which the remains of temple are found, says, “We are not strong enough to keep Prashna Chintane of the remains. If God wishes a temple needs to be built at that spot let that land belong to God. At present, many devotees are visiting the place and offering prayers.”
