Udupi, Jul 17: Udupi district Police in association with Dr AV Baliga Hospital organized a counselling session programme for drug addicts at the hospital premises.

Nearly 200 drug addict youths and their parents participated in the programme. These individuals were identified based on their involvement reported from the various police station of the Udupi district.

Dr P V Bhandary, psychologist and medical director of Dr AV Baliga Hospital and Dr Virupaksha Devarumane gave information about the ill-effects of alcohol, smoking and drug consumption. They also informed the participants to take benefit from the camps organized by the hospital every Sunday near Udupi bus stand and in Ambalpady temple premise.

Hakay Akshay Machindra, police superintendent Udupi district addressing the attendees said, “The police department is taking strict action against drug dealers and trying to transform Udupi district into an addiction-free district”.

Manjunath, police inspector CEN police station Udupi Devraj TV, inspector Manipal police station, police officers and staff of Udupi, Brahmavar and Manipal police stations and staff members of Dr AV Baliga Hospital participated in the workshop.
