Udupi, July 17: “Young people should aim to achieve big in their lives and work hard towards them,” said Udupi deputy commissioner Dr Vidya Kumari K. She was speaking after inaugurating the Agnipath army recruitment rally held at Ajjarkad Mahatma Gandhi sports ground here for the first time on Monday, July 17.

“Young people should work hard to achieve their goals. Success will be assured if they proceed without getting disappointed due to delays. May the dreams of young people joining the Army to guard the nation be realised,” she said.

Additional deputy commissioner Veena B N, army major general R R Raina, special army medals, additional director general, recruitment division and Mangaluru army recruitment division head Colonel Anuj Gupta and others were present.  

As many as 665 candidates including 41 candidates from Chikkamagaluru district, 59 from Udupi, 88 from Dakshina Kannada, 91 from Davanagere, 92 from Shivamogga and 294 candidates from Haveri took part in the rally.

An ambulance and doctors were present to provide first aid treatment to those who were tired in the competitive race. Police department had ensured that there was no rush and commotion on the place.

Candidates have to run for 1,600 meters, jump to a distance of nine feet and conduct pull-ups. They should pass in requirements of height, chest measurements, weight and medical tests. The recruitment rally will be held from July 17 to July 25.

More than 6,800 candidates have got themselves registered to participate in the tests. Recruitments are being held for Agniveer general duty, Agniveer technical, Agniveer tradesmen and Agniveer clerk / store keeper positions.
