Karkala: Kundapurians celebrate World Kundapura Kannada Day

Karkala, July 18: “Teachers can provide education to children but only the mother can instill values. As mother tongue is equal to mother, it should be the language first taught to the children. Let the celebration of the language be not confined only to a single day,” said state backward class commission president K Jayaprakash Hegde. 

He was speaking after inaugurating Karkala Kundapura Habba – 2023 programme held at the Prakash Hotel auditorium here, on Monday.

“The joining of people speaking other languages is essential for the survival of a language. The language should be spoken daily,” he said.

Author Om Ganesh gave a lecture on the language. District Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Neelavar Surendra Adiga spoke his words of aspirations.

Taluk unit president Prabhakar Shetty Kondalli presided over the programme. Karkala Ranga Samskruthi president Nithyananda Pai, Janapada artist Nagaraja Panara Valloor and drama artiste Prathima Nayak Amasebailu were present.

Haikady Rajarama Shetty compered the programme. Dharini and Subrahmanya Upadhyaya sang songs in the language. Various local delicacies were displayed.
