Mangaluru, Jul 21: “Irrespective of caste and religion, one should condemn the violence in Manipur. Since four months, brutal riots are taking between Meitei and Kuki-Zo tribes in Manipur. Several deaths have been reported. It is a government-sponsored unrest. The government has completely failed to maintain law and order in the state. The Prime Minister and home minister are silent,” said Congress leader A C Vinayaraj.

Addressing media here on Friday, July 21, he further said, “Dozens of men parading two women naked is really shameful. This should not happen in the country of Lord Rama. We really condemn this incident. The union government is completely silent regarding the issue. Even though BJP MLAs wrote letters to the home minister and Prime Minister, they are silent. They should address this issue at the earliest.”

He also said that the Congress will hold an agitation against this violence in the upcoming days.

He also said, “In this unrest, as many as 150 people have died and 300 have suffered injuries. Moreover, 40,000 have become homeless. This is a government-sponsored ethnic violence. During the elections, the Prime Minister and home minister undertook several road shows in Karnataka, but they were not bothered about the violence in Manipur.

“Why BJP leaders like Smriti Irani, Shobha Karandlaje and others have remained silent over the violence against women in Manipur? The Prime Minister has remained silent even over the sexual harassment allegations against BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh by female wrestlers.

“All constitutional bodies have been paralyzed as BJP workers have entered into important positions,” he said.
