Mangaluru, Aug 8: The eighth day of the novena leading up to the feast of St. Lawrence was observed at Bondel Church in Mangaluru.

The focal theme of this eighth day was "The Meditation of the Word of God as the Divine Strength of Family Life."

The principal celebrant for the occasion was Fr Naveen Pinto, administrator and professor at St Joseph Seminary, Jeppu. Assisting in the mass were Fr Andrew Leo D'Souza and Fr Melwin Pinto MSIJ.

Fr Naveen Pinto addressed the congregation, emphasizing the transformative and life-sustaining power of the Word of God. He underscored the importance of living by the teachings of the Word and the integral role it plays in the life of a Christian. He urged the devotees to prioritize daily engagement with the Word, recognizing its profound impact on their spiritual journey.

Drawing inspiration from Matthew 7:24-28, Fr Pinto likened a life rooted in Christ's teachings to a house built on a solid foundation, impervious to the trials of life. He also invoked Hebrews 4:12, highlighting the dynamism of the Word, capable of discerning thoughts and intentions. He drew a parallel to the Virgin Mary, encouraging the congregation to emulate her receptive spirit towards God's Word.

The scripture from Matthew 11:28, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest," served as a comforting assurance of the restorative grace found in Jesus Christ.

The observance included special prayers for the well-being of those working abroad. The mellifluous voices of the Derebail Adults Choir, led by Valerian, resonated through the church, elevating the spiritual experience.
