Manipal pub and drugs menace : Cong team submits memo to police to take serious action

Udupi, Aug 9: During the recent visit of the Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah to Udupi, a petition was given by a delegation of the Udupi Congress party to draw his attention to the ongoing illegal pub and ganja business in Manipal.

As a further step, the Congress party delegation met Manipal police inspector Devaraj and sub-inspector Abdul Khader to discuss and bring to their notice the illegal business of pubs and ganja in Manipal and the illegal activities of students and youths from outside and the unlawful activities which are taking place beyond midnight.

The Congress leaders' delegation have called for strict action against such illegal activities without yielding to pressure.

Not only the students studying in Manipal, but also the local students and young men and women from Mangaluru are staying in pubs during the nights, which is the main reason for concern lack of safety among the locals.  

"It is a matter of great concern that the number of students becoming victims of marijuana and drugs is increasing day by day when the youth society is being asked to become aware and take steps to improve the society" the delegation highlighted.

Police inspector Devaraj assured the Congress delegation that the law and order situation in Manipal will be kept under close watch and there is no question of yielding to any pressure.

Indrali Kushal Shetty, Sadashiva Amin Kattegudde, Keerthi Shetty Ambalpady, Sukesh Kunder Herga, Bharath Manipal,   Chandra Mohan Chitpady, Surendra Achar, Arun Shetty, Sadanand Manipal and others were present.
