Bengaluru, Aug 12: Two senior cabinet ministers – Energy Minister KJ George and Transport Minister B Ramalinga Reddy – hailed the service and contribution of St John’s Medical College and Hospital during the Covid 19 pandemic and at all times of national calamities.

Participating in the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the St John’s institutions held under the auspices of St John’s National Academy of Medical Sciences K J George conveyed the greetings on behalf of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and appreciated the humanitarian service of the institutions.

The minister lauded the motto of St John’s to reach out to the unreached and the poorest of the poor.

Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy mentioned that St John’s was the first private medical college in Karnataka and appreciated its selfless service as also the efforts to keep abreast of the latest technological advances in healthcare.

A new Oncology Centre and the integrated laboratory services offering state of art services in cancer care. Nuclear medicine and PET scan facility that are newly introduced at St. John’s are also available as part of these cancer care services. The integrated laboratory services have number of special investigations in various fields such as mycology, hemato-oncology and histopathology.

Special mention was also made of the upcoming St. John’s Geriatric Centre which would be offering comprehensive elderly and palliative care and would be undertaking training, research and community engagement in geriatrics.

Chief Postmaster General, Karnataka Circle S Rajendra Kumar released an India Post special cover with insignia of St John’s. Dr Prem Pais, alumnus from the batch of 1964 extended his heartfelt thanks and gratitude to his alma mater. He recollected fond memories of times spent by the alumni at St. John’s and expressed happiness regarding its significant achievements over the years.

Sr Dr Mary Glowery Award for the year 2023 was conferred on Sr Dr Celia, who has been working in the Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh for over 25 years.

Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) President Most Rev Andrews Thazhath emphasized the ethical need to adhere to ethical principles, which the St John’s Institutions have been maintaining over the last six decades since its inception. Serving the people in rural and underprivileged is an unique experience for the doctors of St John’s, he said.

Dr Paul Parathazham, Director of St John’s National Academy of Medical Sciences, in his welcome address described the journey of the institution over the years.
