Bantwal, Aug 13: A team of women here is realising the dream of Punacha grama panchayat to keep the village clean.

Yes, the 'Ujwala Sanjeevini Union', which is actively involved in Poonacha village and which is recognised as the largest revenue village of the taluk, is conducting waste collection and disposal work from the house shops of the village as a model for other villages.

'Garbage is not garbage', the mantra of cleanliness is being realised here, and the women employees assigned by the union are collecting wastes from 140 houses of Poonacha village. The team collects wastes two days in a week (Wednesday and Saturday) and disposes it off on the other days.

Leela, who is the president of the union, is an example for everyone who is engaged in the work of waste segregation, and all the members of the union stand in support of her to ensure the cleanliness of the village.

Besides, Usha who works as a driver is doing the work of waste segregation on other days (excepting Wednesday and Saturday) of the week. Pushpavathi is also helping in segregation of wastes.

Puncha grama panchayat Sanjeevini Union has provided a vehicle for collecting the wastes and is overseeing its operations. A sum of Rs 20,000 is being given as a grant every month by the grama panchayat, and the remaining amount of Rs.100 that is collected from every house and Rs.150  from shops add up to Rs.13,000 towards maintenance.
