Sullia: 35-year-old woman dies after consuming juice made from fruit grown in forest

Sullia, Oct 4: A 35-year-old woman died here on Monday, October 2 after consuming a juice made from a fruit called Myrol that is grown in the forest.

The deceased is identified as Leelavathi (35), who was wife of Jagannath Nayaka Dodderi, a resident of Kullaji in Amarapadnooru village. The deceased is survived by her parents, husband and her two sons.

Leelavathi along with her father had ventured into the forest and had brought the Mairol fruit and extracted the juice from the fruit for consumption under the assumption that it is fit for consumption. After both the father and daughter consumed the juice they were both taken ill.

Leelavathi suffered from vomiting and diarrhoea initially and was admitted to the Sullia Government Hospital. Due to lack of facilities in the hospital, she was rushed to Mangaluru and when she breathed her last on the way, it was learnt.

Members of her family had not informed the doctors in the hospital about the fruit juice that Leelavathi and her father had consumed even three days after admission into the hospital, it is learnt.
