Mangaluru: Sexual harassment of six-year-old girl – Accused sentenced to 20 years in prison

Mangaluru, Oct 7: Additional sessions and FTSC-2 court of the city awarded 20 years RI for accused of sexually harassing a six year old girl.

Benakaraj Lamani alias Raj (25), a native of Nelogal village of Haveri is the accused convicted by the court. He was working as a home nurse. Grandfather of victim girl was unwell at his home at Surathkal. Accused was hired to look after him.

In January 2022, mother of victim girl went out of the house to buy medicines. During her absence, the accused sexually harassed the girl and bit her also. A case was filed in women police station of the city. Inspector H S Bajantri conducted investigation and submitted chargesheet in the court.

Justice Manjula Itti, who conducted investigation sentenced the accused to 20 years of Rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 25000. The court also ordered to pay Rs two lac to the victim girl.

Special public prosecutor Venkatramana Swamy argued for the prosecution.
