Kundapura, Oct 8: State Fisheries, Ports and Inland Water Transport Minister Mankal S Vaidya said that a prosperous society can be built if even the poorest person gets good education. 

He was speaking after inaugurating the Pratibha Puraskar awards and loan disbursement programme for women fishermen self-help groups by Beijadi Fishermen Co-operative Society held at Kamalamma Sarvotthama Budya Kalyana Mandap, Koteshwar on Sunday, October 8. 

"Fishing means they are poor. Especially if they fish during the rainy season, it means that they are poor. In that regard, I will work to ensure that the state government delivers the relief to the deserving families. As much as Rs 5 lac was released by the Centre towards relief, but it has not reached the beneficiaries so far," he said. 

He said that the parliamentarians who should question this are silent. Beijadi Fishermen's Cooperative Association president B Manjunath Kunder Chatrabettu presided. 

Ministers and MLAs were especially honoured on this occasion. Kundapura MLA Kiran Kodgi disbursed loans to women fishermen self-help groups. Udupi MLA Yashpal received the Suvarna Pratibha award. 

Kota Geetananda Trust founder Ananda C Kunder felicitated the talented students. Udupi Fisheries joint director Vivek R, Kundapura sub-division cooperative societies A R Arun Kumar S V, Beijadi village president Prakash G Pujari, Koteshwara Vyavasaya, president Ashok Pujari Beijadi, Gopadi branch union bank manager Prashant Pai, and directors of the association were present. 

Raju Thotadabettu Kome,vice-president of Beijadi Fishermen's Co-operative Society welcomed. Chief Executive Officer Ramesh Kanchan proposed. Annayya Putran gave the eulogy, Chandrasekhar Bijadi narrated.
