Brahmavar, Oct 9: “MLA Yashpal Suvarna who is rebuking the commissioner of the municipal council should speak about the corruption in the Brahmavar sugar factory scrap deal,” said Congress leader Sudhir Kumar Maroli.
Udupi district Congress held a rally at Brahmavar against alleged corruption at Brahmavar sugar factory in the sale of scrap. The rally that began at Brahmavar sugar factory concluded at Brahmavar bus stand followed by a meeting of people's awareness.
Congress leader Sudhir Kumar Maroli in his keynote address said that we have seen those who consumed jiggery and digested it. “But the administration at Brahmavar has consumed iron and digested it. There are suspicions on inviting Chennai based company to bid. They have said in the application before the sale that the iron is rusted here because of hot breeze from the sea. Bu the foundation stone here is also rusted. One computer would have been sufficient for e procurement here. They have said that they have brought Rs four lac income by crushing the jaggery. They have crushed jaggery at an area of 110 acres of land. It should have been transported by this e-way bill. GST is necessary for any business above Rs 50,000. Five security staff members are present in the factory but you could not issue one gate pass. Lacs worth motors are sold away as scrap. MLA Yashpal Suvarna who scolds the commissioner from the office of municipal council should speak about the corruption here. We will have to otherwise say that the amount of this corruption was used in the recent elections. This is a dream project of Oscar Fernandes. The Congress party has begun the people awareness because Oscar Fernandes should not be hurt.”

Former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake said that Pratap Chandra Shetty’s Raitha Sangha has brought out the scam in the open and started a legal campaign. “We cannot sit idle during the scam. Oscar Fernandes has stood by and worked as if the sugar factory was his life. But BJP leaders have started to destroy it. Yediyurappa had spoken as if the sugar factory was his life and blood. While selling the assets to scrap, the land would also be sold to the scrap dealers. The BJP is well known for snatching power and misusing it. Lorry owners and people faced problems when the police department was controlling law and order. It happened during the BJP term. But we have requested the chief minister, held a meeting and took a decision. The BJP is disappointed. District BJP said that they will shave their heads if guarantee projects were implemented. They have still kept hair on their heads. The centre wants only the rich to live. Those who were asking to throw in the dust bin are waiting in lines for the benefits of guarantees. The Congress delegation will visit the chief minister next week. There will be investigations. There are some innocent directors who have spoken about submitting their resignations. Congress is bound to fight against corruption,” he said.
District Congress leader Prasad Raj Kanchan said that Oscar Fernandes established the sugar factory for farmers 40 years ago. “It incurred a loss for some reasons. But the Congress government was extending monetary help for the welfare of farmers. There is a huge scam in the sale of scrap here. The 22 lac kg scrap is sold and the accounting is done only for 11 lac kg scrap. BJP has destroyed the business of agriculture. Our state government will send those who participated in the fraud to jail,” he said.
