Dubai Police Arrest Eight Indians Marching in Support of Anna Hazare

Daijiworld Media Network - Dubai

Dubai, Aug 23: Social activist and civil society leader Anna Hazare, who is on fast demanding the passing of Jan Lok Pal bill to fight against corruption, has received overwhelming support not only from fellow citizens of the nation, but non-resident Indians who spread across the world as well.

In UAE, where laws pertaining to carrying protest marches without prior permission are strict, at least five Indians were arrested for protesting in support of Anna Hazare, on Saturday August 20 evening.

It has been reported that on Monday August 22 three more Indians were arrested for the Saturday protest.

A group of around 150 people gathered at Al Mamzar beach, brought together through a campaign on Facebook. While the group was marching with slogans, banners and Indian flags in support of Anna Hazare, Dubai police reached the spot and asked only the leaders who initiated the march to stay and the rest of the people to leave the place.

It is learnt from reliable source that a case has been booked against the leaders for illegally organising the march through Facebook without obtaining permission.

The Indian Consulate official said that the consulate was not informed of the walk. “The Indian community has to be very cautious about the fact that they are in a foreign land and they must respect the laws of the country. I would be happy to forward any memorandum or written petition to the higher offices in India if I am approached by any group. That is a clear way of doing it,”

Last week at least 25 people travelled to New Delhi to show their solidarity with Anna Hazare, and to participate in the fast.

One of the participants told a newspaper, "We felt strongly about what is happening at home. As we can’t go to India, we wanted to show our support without disrupting peace."

In April, when Anna Hazare went on his first hunger strike in India’s capital, a group of more than 150 Indian men, women and children reportedly held a candlelight vigil at Dubai’s Jumeirah Open Beach for two hours. But no arrests were made.

There is no freedom in UAE except expatraite coolie labour to build sky scrappers. Without this labour UAE is just sand and sun. Protest must take place to come out of the clutches, corruption or otherwise. Democracy is democarcy, only when full freedom exists otherwise all are controlled democracies or autocracies.

This is what happens, when there is a democratic country, people start climbing the shoulders n sit on the head of PM n start hammering him.Whereas as in monarchy ruler himself is respected somuch that he his titled "His Royal highness" with due respect.
We as Indian just hav to think r we treating our PM,the same way atleast call him with the respect.
I hate corruption but Anna's ideology of anti corruption is nothing BUT CLEAR EMOTIONAL ATHYACHAAR.

I request all those including Baliga and Santosh, who are opposing Anna's movement to understand the same properly and then comment.

We gave shelters to foreigners and gave them fundamental rights. But, the same people are treating the Indians badly in their countries.

What will be your comments if they are denied fundamental rights in India.

    Why this double standard.

Parlimentarians are our servants and it is our duty to ensure that they manage the country righteously.

Anna is only representing people's mood and we shall support him.

I differ with so many policies of Gandhi and his role during the partition of our country.

But, we shall respect him for his contribution to the freedom struggle.

    Dhanyavad.

Your Vision is clear but your method is wrong instead of gathering at Al Mamzar beach,it should been done in front of The Indian Consulate - DUBAI and handover a memorandum of your protest duly signed to consular general and pass the picture to any MEDIA who can post in their article in DUBAI or in INDIA.

Most of the people who are part of the Protests supporting Anna have poor personal integrity. Most of the low level corruption which is affecting common people is because they break the laws of the land and end up at wrong side of the law. These people try to do away with their acts by bribing or indulging in corruption. We can daily see images of people of all ages breaking laws in Mangalore and even during the protests. When Indian are in Singapore they follow the laws but in India they dont fallow the laws because they know that they can do away with bribe and money/muscle power. The attitude of the people is the reason why corruption is growing today.

    Dear Vaz
In your own country do fight for your rights /or supporting some other etc etc.. but when you in other country you can't .. cause nothing is ours.so not only muslims every one to obey their rules and regulations. And everyone do same.
For example in india these bajrang dal,RSS,Ram sena how much comunal voilence they create. They even create hindu muslim fights in india.Do you think these culprits not there in Dubai / UAE. Some people from these groups are there. And you think why they dont do these comunal voilence there. Because they know this is not india and if we do same very big punishment is reserved.
So not only muslims every one knows in india whatever you can do for your rights. But in Gulf countries you cant.

Guys, please appreciate what these people have done by taking silent protest march in solidarity with anti-corruption movement in India.
What they should have done is take prior permission from the Indian Mission and local police officials. If they get green signal then only go ahead.
It is also advisable to abide by the rules of the foreign country as there are certain rules one has to follow especially during Ramadhan - strictly no smoking, drinking, eating in public.

But we should not discourage people who show solidarity from Foreign land, as in the case of Babri Musjid, church attacks, Pub attacks etc., when our own countrymen are sleeping whereas the demonstrations were being held in other States and foreign countries. This enables us to assess a certain situation from the Indian diaspora spread overseas.

Unlike India, in the gulf countries, laws and rules are made to be followed. That is why those countries are less corrupt and more peaceful. Don't treat those countries like India.
And people prefer to work in these countries because, although they are Islamic countries, they treat people of all religions with respect. No one is discriminated. India being a secular state, there is still so much communal war going on. Ashamed of my country.

Why in UK, USA and other western countries (foreign countries) peoples march. Is it tamasha or publicity. Of course Dubai they should have asked some permission which they definitely will not give. I think during Babri Masjid issue no one took permission to attack shops and place of worship. It's a kingdom so better keep quiet.

Britsh rulers occupied our land, these fools went to UAE for bread and butter, they have to follow the rules of that land. Who is Anna Hazare? how can a septuagenarian can be so active without food and water? Who gave authority to Anna and his team to hijack Indian democracy. We have elected Indian parliament to be our representatives, we didn't choose Anna and his team to represent us. Anna and his agitation are brain child of RSS and BJP. Anna spent 2 lakh rupees on his birthday and he is called Gandhivadi, if he is so concern about India, let him fight for farmers in his state called Maharashtra. Anna and his team's truth will be exposed, then all of them screamed anti corruption will go into exile. Wait and Watch!!!

How come people are protesting in UK and USA?
Many of Gulf countries are revolting against their leaders. In order to march towards democracy. In UAE, govt might have scared because of these facebook revolution and arrested these people. Otherwise what is the harm in showing support to some cause, whatever country may be he is in, peacefully, without breaking rules or damaging ?

Tibetian protest everywhere for matter of fact.

This was before independence. The British had their laws. We had rules and laws from many kings. These kings were collecting tax steadily, if a child was born to a family. Whatever be Gandhi's understanding was super India. But he miscalculated partitioning supremacy inside India.

Wonderful observations from wonderful people! I was one of the 150 people at Jumeirah beach in April. The police came, enquired, told us to just keep it peaceful, and then they left. Seems, the non-Indian police was more concerned about the state of affairs in India than these wonderful Indians! I was not there the last time, at Mamzar, because I was at India Gate - so don't know what happened. Maybe it was not kept peaceful or was not low on noise. But it's shocking to read the comments from the wonderful people who have commented here. They are beyond help. Very sad! Indeed, very sad!

In Dubai, Laws are made to implement. There is no way out by bribing. No corruption at all.
What I admire of Dubai(UAE) is, though their's is not a democratic country, they have made their land so beautiful for all the people to dwell in. For us in India, it may take couple of centuries to reach that living conditions if total corruption is wiped out by politicians themselves.
