Udupi: Annual Uchila Dasara inaugurated

Udupi, Oct 16: “Uchila Dasara is intended to be a celebration for the entire state, not just for the Karavali region,” said deputy commissioner (DC) Dr K Vidyakumari.

The grand celebration of Uchila Dasara was inaugurated by DC Dr K Vidyakumari at Dr G Shankar open air auditorium at Uchila Sri Mahalakshmi temple premise on Sunday October 15.


Addressing the gathering, Gurme Suresh Shetty, MLA of Kaup said, “The religious festivals, religious centres of Tulunadu unite us. Let Uchila Dasara be a celebration of the land's culture and tradition.”

Dr G Shanker, honorary advisor of the temple presiding over the programme said, “This year Uchila Dasara is being celebrated with Yuva Dasara and Mahila Dasara as well. Exhibitions of floral decor and fishing gear have been conducted.”

The idols of Sharadha mata and Navadurge were placed on the occasion. Also dedicated to the goddess on this occasion was a silver harp, a silver crown for Sharadha mata, and a golden fish chain for Mahalakshmi Devi.

Newly-built Mahalakshmi annachatra and guest house were inaugurated on the occasion.

Yashpal Suvarna, MLA of Udupi district, Rashmi SR, assistant commissioner Poornima, deputy director Kannada and cultural department Nagaraj V, tahsildar Jayashree Mane, circle inspector Jaya C Kotian, president DK Mogaveera Mahajana Sangha Vedamurthy Raghavendra Upadhyaya, temple priest Gundu B Amin, president renovation committee Vasudeva Salian, president Usharani, president women's unit Suguna Karkera, president Kaup Nakupatna Mogaveera Mahasabha Subhaschandra Mendon, vice president Sudhaker Kunder, Bhuvanendra Kediyoor, managing director Kediyoor Hotels Dr Jerry Vincent Dias, managing director Mandavi real estate developers were present on the occasion.
